The Blue Nile. They are stuck in the genre of what I'm sure 92.3 WTTS likes to call "Adult Alternative."
Their more current work is very just that...or somewhat. And don't get me wrong...I totally love my Simply Red and Sting, but I'm more fond of their earlier work, specifically their album "A Walk Across Rooftops."
This isn't a review, just a ramble. No one I know listens to this band, cares about this band, or really even likes their music, but whatever, a "blog" is for "blogging" and I guess I'll just carry on.
I've had three glasses of wine and I'm burning cds for DJing...and came across the remix for the single "Stay" and decided to blog about singer/guitarist Paul Buchanan's voice. I just adore it...perhaps it's the sappy girl in me...it's emotional, it's sensitive, blahblahblah and on a song like "Stay" how can you not get all sappy.
A lovely record that, released in 1984, was a gem alongside other Scottish musicians, specifically Big Country and Aztec Camera - two bands ahead of their time on their debut albums, but fell a step behind later. Regardless, the Blue Nile makes me delighted and content, relaxed and happy.
Talk about underrated...christ...Buchanan has done work with Annie Lennox, Robbie Robertson, Rickie Lee Jones...okay...I'm showing my adult contemporary. He's even working with Shirley Manson on her solo album.
This was anti climatic. I'm going to upload the remix to "Stay" to my rockitbomb page.
Perhaps you'll enjoy.
